Turmeric Hot Cocoa – A Healing Cup

A warm cup of turmeric hot cocoa in the morning is the perfect start to the day. Sweetened with maple syrup, this warm drink is as good for you as it is tasty!

Spring, summer, and fall are always busy around here. There are projects that require a lot of energy, and one way I fuel that energy is to drink coffee…sometimes too much coffee!

Last fall, I decided I needed a break from coffee (insert sad face). I had become too dependent on the caffeine to give me energy. It was no longer effective, and I was still tired. My Mom was out visiting and suggested adding turmeric to my homemade hot cocoa. Brilliant! Time for a change and a boost for my immune system!

Why Turmeric?

Turmeric is a powerful antioxidant and supports the immune system in different ways. According to this article, it has “potent anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-cancer and antibacterial properties.”

Turmeric’s health benefits include fighting inflammation, increasing brain function (reducing your risk of Alzheimer’s disease), and some claim it reduces your risk of cancer. I am all for that, and I need all the brainpower I can get!

Turmeric hot cocoa is simple, warm, sweet, and just the right amount of turmeric to give it a little grounding spice while not overpowering the cocoa flavor.

Hot Cocoa

Simple Ingredients

I love using fresh milked Molly milk (with the cream mixed in), which makes it extra tasty, and my brain needs that extra fat in the morning in the morning to get going!

The maple syrup is usually from Costco (I order online!). The cocoa and turmeric are from Azure Standard, and the vanilla extract is homemade!

We don’t have a microwave (by choice) so I always use the stovetop to make it.

Hot Cocoa Recipe

You’ll see, this recipe is so easy to whip up (I usually just ‘guesstimate’ measurements every morning, so you’ll definitely have to tweak it to make it your own!)

The sun is shining even though we have highs in th The sun is shining even though we have highs in the low 20’s. We are thankful for the little bit of moisture we had this past week 🙏🏻 (My milk cows might not be so appreciative😅)

Our Angus heifers and cows that are calving are being watched extra close on these cold days/nights. No reason to risk losing a calf or letting it get behind due to cold weather. Every calf is valuable🐮

Thankful for my husband who is so dedicated and diligent in caring for our cattle and making sure these babies get off to a good start - He’s the greatest example of being a good steward of what God has given us.

The coop and porch need a good scrub down this spring, because, you know, poultry just have a habit of making everything that surrounds them dirty🤪
